Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) is the amount of money you can earn from work and still be eligible for Social Security disability benefits.
SGA is adjusted every year for inflation. In 2023 the SGA amount is $1,470 per month.
If you have personal earned income (from work or self-employment) of at least $1,470 per month you are not eligible for disability benefits.
Individuals who are blind have higher SGA amounts.
The following chart shows SGA amounts over the years.
